OVERLAY FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY

When was the last time you stuck your head up in your attic?  Probably not anytime in recent memory.  In this day and age, energy efficiency is becoming more and more important as fuel prices continue to rise.  Did you know that simply increasing the amount of insulation in your attic could pay huge dividends in not only monetary savings, but also making your home more comfortable?  Studies show that a properly insulated attic could save as much as 30% off of your energy bills.

Many homes have difficulty cooling in the summer and/or heating in the winter.  Some homes have rooms in the house that experience varied differences in temperature compared to other rooms.  Does your a/c run all day in the heat of the summer?  It may not be your HVAC system’s fault.  Having an inspector perform a multi-point inspection of your attic for proper insulation (and other potential issues) may be a vital first step in diagnosing exactly what is going on.

In the St. Louis region an R49/R60 value is recommended for the thermal efficiency in your attic.  What does R value mean?   The .gov link will explain a lot of what is being discussed here and also has the U.S. map broken down by Climate Zones and estimates the R value recommended for our region.

St. Louis is the beginning of the R49/R60 region so, as a company, we recommend R49.

For additional energy savings, R60 is not a bad investment.

Wildlife Attic Remediation

Do you hear the pitter patter of little feet and you don’t have children running around?  That could be a problem…  Since it is in our name, you probably know that we do wildlife removal, as well as attic insulation.

Unfortunately, sometimes the two services go hand in hand.  If you have or had mice, bats, birds, squirrels, raccoons, or possums in your attic we can kill two birds with one stone.  (no pun intended)  Before Buckingham Pest Control does your attic insulation, our Inspection Team will perform a multi-point inspection to look for signs of wildlife, wildlife droppings, nesting materials, rodent runs, and other issues that may be going on that you do not even know about.

If you currently have a wildlife issue, Buckingham Pest Control can perform a trapping program to rid the attic of the current wildlife situation AND provide a proposal for excluding holes and gaps around the home to help prevent future issues.  If the wildlife has been inhabiting the attic for quite sometime, you may want to consider having all of the old insulation that has been contaminated with urine, feces, carcasses, and nesting debris (sorry if you were eating…) extracted for health reasons.  Once the old insulation and “stuff” has been removed, Buckingham Pest Control will sanitize the entire attic space and blow in fresh, new cellulose insulation to improve your home’s energy efficiency and improve the health of your home with conventional cellulose or our recommended

T•A•P® Pest Control Insulation

T•A•P® Pest Control Insulation VS Conventional Cellulose

T•A•P® INSULATION

Our preferred product of choice

T•A • P stands for THERMAL, ACOUSTICAL, PEST CONTROL.

T • A • P Insulation uses an enhanced, proprietary treatment for its product that not only keeps the cellulose flame retardant, but also increases the thermal efficiency, decreases sound transfer, and is specifically rated to control many species of insect pests that may find their way into the attic such as spiders, brown recluse, ants, silverfish, etc….

With the addition of the proprietary treatment T • A • P Insulation should only be installed by licensed Pest Control Professionals as this is a product with an EPA registration number and is regulated by the government and the MO Department of Agriculture.  If a company is proposing to use T • A • P, be sure they are properly licensed and insured.

Conventional Cellulose

Attic Insulation Only, no walls

CONVENTIONAL CELLULOSE is the other product that Buckingham Pest Control will use to insulate an attic space.

Although T • A • P is our recommended product, regular cellulose is a good product as well.  Cellulose is also treated to be flame resistant and will perform in a manner similar to T • A • P, however this product does not have the density and product quality as we often encounter other “recycled” items within the cellulose material itself.  Conventional cellulose is a good second option for a lower price point.  In most situations the Inspector can price out both products.

BATTED FIBERGLASS INSULATION

At this time, Buckingham Pest Control does not install batted fiberglass as a “whole attic” option.

If your attic has batted insulation, we can perform a cellulose insulation overlay to a proper thickness to increase the energy efficiency of your home.  If your attic has batted insulation around vaulted ceilings, short walls, or any other area that is compromised with animal waste or any other reason that it would need to be replaced, we can remove and replace the batts.  We would then install one of the two types of cellulose insulation to complete your attic remediation.

New Construction

Although Buckingham Pest Control mostly works with homeowners and existing homes, we do have the capability to perform insulation for new construction as well.  In the case of new construction, Buckingham Pest Control can install cellulose in the attic and install batted fiberglass insulation in the walls prior to drywall being installed.

Residential and Commercial

Whether you have a home or a business, if it has an attic space Buckingham Pest Control can install cellulose insulation.  What business would not like to take advantage of the same energy efficiency and monetary savings?

Financing Options

Buckingham Pest Control works with 3rd party lenders to offer financing.  With a 700+ credit score you could qualify for  an 18 month 0% option.  Our lenders can work with customers down to a 600+ credit score.  Keep in mind these lending options are through 3rd party lenders and not Buckingham Pest Control.

Energy Tax Credits

Tax credits are offered at the federal and state levels.  Buckingham Pest Control will try to keep our customers up to date with the various credits and programs.

These programs, however, do change from time to time so please be sure to do some quick research on the various programs that are available.

FAQ

Since cellulose insulation is made from recycled newspaper and other products, won’t it easily catch on fire?

No.  The cellulose is treated with a boric acid treatment which is what gives it the ability to not easily “combust.” Like anything, if exposed to fire for an extended period of time it will burn.

The cellulose and the T•A•P insulation to an even greater degree, will actually offer some protection from a fire that starts in the attic.
